Blazing a Trail for Bicycles (Pedestrians too!)

It's happening all around us, though we may not have noticed. The Greater Binghamton area is becoming more and more bicycle and pedestrian friendly every day. The Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study in conjunction with several area municipalities, organizations and NYSDOT region 9 plans and develops biking and walking trails throughout our region. With plans like the Binghamton Metropolitan Greenway study, work is underway to connect even more neighborhoods with biking and walking trails. There is hope that folks will one day be able to travel along a trail continuously from Binghamton to Owego! And BMTS also helps to encourage biking as a fun family exercise by sponsoring the annual Binghamton Bridge Pedal! It's a police-escorted bike tour around the downtown Binghamton and river corridor areas, with stops at local parks and historic sites to see. This year's bridge Pedal Run will be held on Saturday, July 14th. If you'd like information on how to join go to bmtsonline.com/bmts/Binghamton-bridge-pedal...and get on your bike!!
